International Advanced Computing & Communications Conference Kicks Off For Its 27th Edition

With the theme ‘Embedded Artificial Intelligence and Beyond’, the twenty-seventh International Advanced Computing and Communications Conference 2022 (ADCOM 2022), commenced on March 9, 2023, at the International Institute of Information Technology, Bengaluru.

The three-day conference started with tutorials on TensorFlow and Keras by Dr Ashish Tendular, AI and ML leader at Google, and chatbots by Dr Uma Ranjan. The lectures continued throughout the morning and were followed by the ACCS Foundation Award ceremony. The ACCS Foundation Award 2022 was conferred to Dr Tessy Thomas, the director general (Aeronautical Systems) of the Indian Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO).

Dr Thomas has contributed to guidance, control, inertial navigation, trajectory simulation and mission design for long-range ballistic missiles and is the first woman to head a missile project in India. She was the former project director for the Agni IV ballistic missile.

After the ceremony, Dr Thomas expressed her gratitude for receiving the award and delivered a lecture on AI in Defence where she talked about the current applications of AI in defence. She elaborated on the applications of radar systems in defence and compared them to the expansive applications of AI. She said that five young scientist labs had been set up in DRDO to further advance the research on AI and its applications. She ended the lecture by describing the future defence with AI and said that the war scenario would change to autonomous offence with AI.

The conference also witnessed the attendance of stalwarts in the science and technology sector, including Dr HP Khincha, Professor Emeritus at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, Prof. Debabrata Das, Director, IIIT Bangalore, Dr Srinivasan Ramani and ACCS President Jailendra Kumar, who delivered congratulatory speeches to applaud Dr Thomas’ achievement.

The conference will continue till March 11, 2023, and will witness an illustrious group of speakers delivering keynotes. The conference will also have a paper presentation on many aspects of Embedded AI systems and related technologies.
