Saraswati Dynamics Private Limited (Sdyn) was started in the early 1980s by the late Shree Prakash Gupta, who had extensive experience in the field of seismic vibrations, having worked at the Earthquake Department, Roorkee University (now IIT Roorkee). Sdyn has to its credit more than 650 installations globally. Its offices are located in all major metropolitan cities in India, including Delhi-NCR, Bengaluru, Chennai, Pune and Hyderabad. In a conversation with Electronics Bazaar, Mukesh Goel, MD, Sdyn, shares the company’s journey.

By Belal Khan

Sdyn began as an engineering company in the 1980s. The founders had the utmost confidence in the firm’s capabilities to continuously absorb technologies and translate it into products that would meet the emerging needs of the market for environmental testing. The company soon took on the challenge of developing and manufacturing electrodynamic vibration testing systems for global requirements.
As the company’s journey gathered momentum, it inducted multi-disciplinary engineering talent, and utilised frontier technology and materials to offer high performance systems that enabled its clients to create real-life environments to test and validate the quality and reliability of their products. Over time, the company has established a distributor network throughout the world in both developed and developing economies, apart from its offices across India. At present, it has more than 650 installations globally.

The manufacturing floor, at a glance

Environmental chamber

The company manufactures the complete range of electrodynamic vibration systems and environmental chambers to meet the testing requirements of industries across the globe.
These include air-cooled and water-cooled electrodynamic vibration testing systems, electrodynamic shakers, power amplifiers, vibration controllers, horizontal slip tables, head expanders, vertical load support and fixtures as well as environmental chambers (standalone), and integrated chambers and thermal shock chambers for simulation of environmental conditions such as temperature and humidity.

The machinery used at Sdyn’s manufacturing plant for making these products includes the following:

  • CNC vertical machining centre
  • CNC milling machines
  • CNC drilling machines
  • Aluminium MIG welding machines
  • Magnesium TIG welding machines
  • Digital storage oscilloscopes
  • Arbitrary waveform generators
  • Digital power supplies
  • Digital multimeters, etc.

A focus on quality
Sdyn has set up a number of systems and processes in the organisation that help it to focus on making quality goods. A few important processes are listed below.
Low voltage directive: Each product at Sdyn is designed and manufactured to ensure protection against hazards arising from electrical equipment. This means the user is adequately protected against physical injury or harm.

Electromagnetic compatibility directive: As per this directive, the company’s products have an adequate level of electromagnetic immunity in the specified electromagnetic compatibility environment.

Machinery directive: Sdyn’s products are designed with safety in mind to ensure protection against hazards resulting from the product itself, as well as the hazards to the product arising from external influences.

System technical file: The technical file on products comprises the following:

  • General description of the product
  • Design and manufacturing drawings of items such as components, sub-assemblies and circuits Test results regarding the product’s conformity with health and safety norms
  • Description of methods adopted to eliminate hazards presented by the product

Norm affixing: The CE mark is affixed on the product as a symbol of compliance to health and safety requirements.
Sdyn has gone one step further from self-certification by getting certified by an external agency.
The ISO 9001:2008 certification ensures quality in all fields.

Certifications achieved
Listed below are some of the key certifications that Sdyn has been awarded with, which reassure its clients about the global standards being followed by the company.
Harmonised safety standards

  • EN 1050: 1997
  • EN ISO 12100-1: 2003
  • EN ISO 12100-2: 2003
  • EN 60204-1: 1997 with AM 1-1998

EMI/EMC qualification as per EN 61000-6-4 and EN 61000-6-2

  • Conducted, harmonic and radiated emission
  • Radiated and conductive immunity
  • Conducted radiation and ESD
  • Fast transient burst
  • Power frequency magnetic field surge

Being a manufacturer of high technology products, Sdyn has been registered as an R&D unit with the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), under the Ministry of Science and Technology.

ISO 9001:2008 certification
This leads to increased customer satisfaction through the effective application of this quality management system, including procedures for continual improvement.

The company’s take on ‘Make in India’
“India has suffered for a long time due to trade restrictions in the nuclear, defence and space sectors. The need to develop technologies and to realise the product was inescapable. The development
of such products calls for leaders to put relentless team efforts to bring forward the domestic manufacturing industry, enabling the country to have inclusive growth,” says Goel.
“At Sdyn, we have gone beyond ‘Make in India’ to ‘Made in India’; our products are manufactured, assembled, designed and engineered at our manufacturing facility and R&D centre in Roorkee,” he adds.
The company is developing technologies that the West will not share with India, because of an embargo. According to the company, the ‘Make in India’ campaign is a major boost to the manufacturing industry if it diligently involves the MSME (micro, small and medium enterprises) sector as well.

Electrodynamic vibration system

We, at Sdyn, are committed to actively raising the quality of life by continuously improving the level of comfort of society by duplicating in-service conditions of a product in a laboratory environment. This ultimately helps to reduce fatigue and improve comfort by modifying metallurgy, shape, and so on.
