With iPay, the gap between IRCTC and banks will decrease and the elimination of third-party vendors will eventually cause less payment failures

After launching an updated and renewed version of the e-ticketing website last month, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) is all set to introduce its new payment aggregator – IRCTC-iPay by August 2018. In an official tweet, IRCTC stated that users will be provided with all payment options such as Credit/Debit card, Auto Debit, Wallets among more, to pay for their tickets through iPay.

iPay to make booking tickets swift and easy
According to an official tweet by IRCTC on June 19, 2018, IRCTC has been granted a Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI-DSS) security cerificate – which is a necessity to process online transactions.

This new payment mode has been launched with the aim to ease out the online ticketing process and also to make the same, faster. IRCTC-iPay will rule out the need for users to depend on a third-party medium to make online payments.

Also, IRCTC believes that iPay will eliminate chances of payment failures due to the absence of any third-party medium. Now, in case an online transaction fails or some other glitch occurs, IRCTC can directly get in touch with the bank instead of relying on an intermediate source and delaying the process. An IRCTC official said that through iPay, the government body is aiming to make same-day refund possible for users. iPay will be made available on both government and private e-commerce websites by the prescribed date.

What’s new in the upgraded IRCTC website?
Unlike the older version of the website, non-registered users can now check the availability of seats or check trains without logging into the website. Also, users are given the facility of carrying out many activities – cancellation of tickets, printing of tickets and request for SMS among others. There is also an ‘Vikalp’ option, using which users can select an alternative train or change the boarding point, if necessary.

As per official figures, the announcement is targeted to make booking tickets easy for approximately 13 lakh tickets booked on IRCTC website every day against 10.5 lakh berths.
