The city of Indore flagged off a pilot project on Monday – a ‘Robocop’ to manage traffic. However, the project has since then received mixed reactions from people.
According to Indiatimes, former inspector general of police, VK Agnihotri said that the concept is good. It would make the process error-free, besides it would also ensure issuance of challans to those who violate traffic norms. In his view, if executed properly, the project can help the traffic police to ensure a safer and smoother movement of traffic.
The 14-foot giant was designed at a cost of Rs. 15 lakh. It has become a major object of attraction for the residents. People are talking about it on social media. Installed at the busy MR 9 intersection, the Robocop did, however, distract a lot of motorists who stopped in the middle of the square to admire the installation which led to slow-moving traffic, something that the Robocop had to regulate!
While some followed the Robocop’s instructions, others didn’t. A resident, Nandini Sunder said, “Why people would abide by the instructions of a robot when they do not even listen to instructions of a cop. It appears to be not more than an entertaining too.”
A cop was also stationed at the square to monitor the Robocop which also irked a few people who thought that instead of the machine, the department should have deployed real cops in large numbers.
