iesaThursday, June 19, 2014: The BJP-led NDA Government’s recent bid to boost the development of Electronics System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) sector across the country by identifying eight cities that will see the creation of relevant facilities in the days to come has been well received by the India Electronics and Semiconductor Association (IESA). The government of India will deem these facilities as eligible for incentives, including subsidy, Communications and Information Technology Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad informed recently. Further, the Government is also looking to set up seven greenfield electronic manufacturing clusters in India.

“These key announcements emphasise the Union government’s strategic thrust to boost our economy by strengthening design led electronics manufacturing, accelerate employment generation and attract substantial foreign capital inflows into the country,” Ashok Chandak, chairman, IESA was quoted as saying. “The speed and focus of honorable Minister in capturing industry needs in the announcement on electronics sector is very heartening and is a major milestone towards vision of making India an ESDM powerhouse,” Chandak added.

Earlier, the Department of Electronics and Information Technology (DEITY) gave in-principle approval for setting up of an Electronics Manufacturing Cluster (EMC) at the proposed Info Valley at the outskirts of Bhubaneswar, Odisha. DEITY has approved grant worth Rs 969.6 million for the greenfield project to be developed over 215.76 acres of land under the EMC scheme. “IESA has successfully provided inputs to the Union and various state governments on policy matters and roadmap to build “High Value Added” manufacturing eco systems in India and recently announced assistance to the Government of Odisha to set up the first Greenfield EMC in Info-valley, Bhubaneswar, under the EMC Scheme of DeitY,” M N Vidyashankar, President, IESA was quoted as saying.
