Hawkers in parts of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh have started using solar-powered lighting devices in place of kerosene and petromax lamps. Around 300 hawkers in Faridabad, Palwal and Agra, in the past few years have switched to solar lamps provided by ‘Urja Unlimited’. The initiative is not only good for their health and environment as hawkers inhale a lot of fumes from kerosene and petromax lamps, but also saves a lot of money for them.
The solar lanterns costs between Rs 2500-2800 and come with a battery and charge controller. They are easy to carry and can also be hung on a ceiling. Solar lanterns are available in 3 LED lantern finishes, fitted with a 3-watt solar panel and further specifications can be modified to suit the needs of individual customers.
