To give the B2B edge, leading marketplaces in major cities of India like Delhi’s Lajpat Rai Market and Bhagirath Palace, Mumbai’s Lamington Road, Kolkata’s Lenin Street, Bangalore’s (now Bengaluru) S. P. Road, Chennai’s Ritchie Street, etc have been highlighted on eleB2B.com.EB: EFY group is a 40 years old organisation. So what’s new happening at your end?

Monday, April 20, 2013: Well, while we are a 40 years old organisation, we feel as excited as a teenager all the time. We continuously keep an eye on the needs of our customers, which keep changing with time. Especially, during a downturn that we are all going through now, our customers need even better marketing solutions. We try to come up with solutions quickly to cater to their changing needs.
The increase in business-to-business activity in the last few years within the Indian electronics industry motivated us to launch Electronics Bazaar magazine two years ago, and it has already become a great success. Now, we are launching the Beta version of eleB2B.com and trying to make some of our existing products even more friendly for our customers’ customers.

EB: What is eleB2B.com all about?

Simply said, it’s about connecting buyers and sellers. We have been trying to achieve this goal through the Electronics Annual Guide (EAG) and Electronics updated yearly to provide comprehensive information about leading brands, manufacturers and national distributors in India.
Electronics Bazaar has grown to become a monthly that focuses on certain product segments every month and provides information to buyers and sellers. However, we had been feeling the need for a medium for long that would provide updated information on a 24×7 basis, and complement the efforts of the EAG and EB. We hope eleB2B.com will prove to be that missing service. “The popularity of the web has increased a lot in the last two years, and many of our customers were feeling the need for such a portal. We believe that when your customers demand a service, then it’s the
perfect time to produce it.”

EB: What prompted the launch of this portal now?

Many factors lead to its launch. First, we always had the database of all leading electronics manufacturers and distributors in India with us, which was updated annually and published in EAG. Second, the popularity of the web has increased a lot in the last two years, and many of our customers were feeling the need for such a portal. We believe that when your customers demand a service, then it’s the perfect time to produce it. Besides, we believe in “win-win” deals. eleB2B.com will allow us to create many more win-win situations for our customers, which in turn will help us too to grow as an organisation.

EB: What is the plan with respect to launching this portal?

We plan to keep the portal in Beta form till June. Till then, we will open it up to our customers, and to their customers, so that we can get inputs from them on improvements needed. In the background, our technical team will keep improving the facilities offered by the portal. Of course, on the web every day is a new day, and one needs to keep improving. But we hope to get the major features introduced before June end.

EB: What are the key highlights of the portal, who all should use it and why?

There are countless possibilities with respect to using eleB2B.com. The main feature of this website is that it can provide you with a list of all leading manufacturers and distributors in India, including their products, services and contact details. You can browse through the information in different ways—you can see the lists product-wise, or organisation name-wise, or even brands-wise. So, if you are looking for UPS manufacturers, all you need to do is browse the products section for the product “UPS” and then click to view the list of organisations associated with it. And, we are not just providing their names or websites, we are even providing you with contact details, year of establishment, number of employees, and lot more information. Even the link to their website, when available.

EB: Browsing lists can be a tedious process at times. Can one search too?

Yes, you can. You can use the search function to search amongst organisations, products, or brands. We have tried to make the interface as simple as possible, and we are open to suggestions on how it can be made even better.

EB: How can organisations get listed on eleB2B.com?

It’s a simple and a free process. All they need to do is to go to the website and download the form, and mail it to us. Or they can send an email to editsec@ efyindia.com, and we will send them the form. There is no cost involved in getting your firm listed in the EAG, or in eleB2B. com. I would urge all concerned to avail this opportunity as soon as possible. One filled-in form will suffice for both, the EAG and eleB2B.com

EB: So what happens to the Electronics Annual Guide? Isn’t there going to be conflict between the EAG and eleB2B.com?

We don’t think so. In fact, if you see the industry portals worldwide, they have gone from portals to printed directories. A handy directory cannot be replaced by web, at least for now. The fact that you can carry the EAG anywhere, make notes on it, share it with your colleagues, put stickers, and you don’t need any other infrastructure to access its information—makes it a great medium for most users. We believe that the two will work in tandem for quite some time.

You can browse through the information in different ways—you can see the lists product-wise, or organisation name-wise, or even brands-wise.”

EB: Any plans to improve the EAG?

Yes, we are making the EAG more friendly for buyers. We have a section called ‘Buyers’ guide’ in the EAG where all manufacturers are listed product-wise. We have renamed this section as ‘Yellow Pages’ to reflect the increased focus towards making the EAG more user-friendly. Our goal is to make EAG more user-friendly and intuitive as any leading yellow pages. Naturally, this section will be printed with a yellow background too. Earlier, ‘Buyers’ guide’ used to be placed after the ‘Directory’ section in the EAG, but now it will come ahead of the directory. So the buyers can get information about the manufacturers of products first, and can then look for the contact information of any particular manufacturer from the Directory section. That’s not all. We have introduced the option for organisations to get their contact information, or even their logo or small advertisements, published within the Yellow Pages itself. This way, the buyers can get important information about them right then and there, and need not search for them in the Directory section.

EB: Won’t the advertisers get confused, whether to go for the EAG directory or eleB2B.com?

We are now offering the entire range of marketing services that a customer typically needs in the current business scenario. No leading brand can afford to miss a medium like the Internet, or a national directory, which is referred to by their customers and trade channel. We want to offer them both, print and digital presence, at a better pricing. That’s why we have combo schemes, wherein customers can opt for both mediums and save money.
