The applications of light emitting diodes (LEDs), a semiconductor light source, have increased over the past few years as they are being used in diverse areas. As we all know, an LED has many advantages over incandescent light sources including lower energy consumption, longer life, smaller sizes, quicker switching, and greater durability and reliability. Hence many countries, including India, have started scaling up production of LED products. The wide perception that the LED industry is a lucrative business in India, the demand for LED components such as LED chips, LED diodes and LED modules is likely to double. However, the country imports nearly 99 per cent of its LEDs.
