With the National Manufacturing Policy Unveiled, various companies catering to different sectors, such as consumer and industrial electronics, telecom equipment, computers and solar energy, are gearing up to expand their production facilities in India. Once implemented, the policy will unlock the true potential of manufacturing within the country, feel experts.
The mushrooming production facilities will help boost the development of many other sectors like tools and equipment, test and measurement (T&M) devices, Surface mount technology (SMT) and through-hole machines, etc.

Abengoa SA has just completed India’s first 3 MW concentrating solar power (CSP) plant for the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay. Abengoa has been responsible for the design, engineering, supply of materials and commissioning of the plant, which represents an investment of US$ 4 million. The plant is located in Gwal Pahari, Haryana.

TI Automotive

TI Automotive has opened two new facilities in Bengaluru and Chennai, which will cater to the domestic Indian market. The Bengaluru facility will produce fluid carrying lines for passenger cars, with full production beginning in December 2011. The Chennai facility is the company’s first fuel tank systems plant within India and will produce low-emission plastic fuel tanks, the production of which will begin in April 2012.

Southern Batteries, which supplies the Hi-Power brand of industrial batteries, plans to enter the automotive battery segment with an investment of Rs 1.8 billion in Bengaluru. The company also plans to tap the OEM segment after it establishes itself in the automotive sector in the years to come.

Hitachi Hi-Rel Power Electronics Pvt Ltd

Hitachi Hi-Rel Power Electronics, a 60:40 joint venture between Hitachi Ltd and Hi-Rel Electronics Pvt Ltd, plans to set up a manufacturing facility of power equipment at Sanand near Ahmedabad. The plant is likely to be commissioned within a year’s time and is expected to generate revenues to the tune of Rs 8 billion by the fiscal year 2016.
